Catch up
Wednesday, December 27th, 2006It’s been a while since I last wrote. I’ve worked out here and there, but nothing consistent. I guess I got a bit burnt out on everything after the Seattle Half Mary. I didn’t even write about how it went.
Seattle Half Mary - went off without a bang. Not much really happened, besides my IT band bothering me from mile 9 to the finish and the fact that it was snowing prior to the start of the race. Thankfully it stopped snowing 15 mins before the start and five minutes before I got out fo my car.
Now it’s the end of December and I’m attempting to get back on track. I’ve been dealing with some hiccups in the form of an old back injury rearing its head again. There’s been some progress, but still dealing with it. Some sciatica on my left side and SI joint issues on the right side. Did you know that the sciatic nerve is as thick as your thumb?
After taking a prescribed two weeks off of exercise, I ran for the first time last night and felt pretty good and fast despite the time off. Tonight I’m going to swim for 45 mins. Bike tomorrow. Trying to ease back into things without moving too fast or flaring up my injury.
February is when I’m supposed to start my actual training plan for PC. Time to make it work. I realized I have another monster to deal with. The sleep monster. I can’t seem to get up early, even after getting 8 hours of sleep. I’d rather stay in bed where it’s warm, relaxing and comforting. So it’s the athlete vs. the sleep and lack of motivation monsters.
I work so hard at the hospital, it’s hard not to let the sleep monster win. I’ll give it my best effort, though. Wish me luck. Time to go swim.
I hope everyone had a good holiday and will have a safe New Year’s.
