Wow.  I haven’t written here since December…  It’s March and I feel as though the year is already flying out from under me.  But it also feels like it just started.

Thankfully, training has not been as obsolete as my blogging.  Still trying to balance work, training, and rest.  I just switched back to 12 hour shifts so I have more time during the week to train when I’m not working.

To make up for my lack of blogging, here is what’s been going on with me.  I’ve made the decision to move to New Mexico in July to live near my parents, to escape the gloom and grey that is Seattle and to have optimal weather and altitude to train in year round.  Pretty excited about it.  I’m having to get lots of stuff in order for it.  Bought my first SUV, fittingly a Nissan XTERRA to pull a Uhaul in July.  Planning what to sell and keep.  And trying to stay on top of my training.

So far this year, I’ve spent a lot more time on my bike.  Bought a trainer for middle of the night riding due to my unique schedule.  Got both my Fuji and Cervelo fit to me.  Started going to swim clinics, which have made a huge difference.  Started up weight lifing for the first time in years.  Bought my first wet suit - yea!  And it wasn’t the horrifying experience that I was expecting.  It was quite easy in fact.  I also obtained my first stress fracture in my foot which has kept me from running for a few months.  I’ve been running on it the last three weeks occassionally, but it’s still tender afterwards.  Therefore, my PT has insisted, borderline threatened, that I stay off of it or else.  Else being, it won’t heal and I won’t be able to run at all.  I’ve been encouraged to do water running without touching the bottom of the pool.  blech.  It’s better than nothing I suppose.  Signed up for a hilly road ride and finished.  Doing Seattle to Portland again this year, but with a friend this time.  Bought a mountain bike and tried learning how to ride in NM/TX through arroyos (rocky river beds) which is night and day compared to NW mt biking.  I haven’t been this bruised since my days as a childhood tomboy.  I also found out what it is like to land on cactus after having my wheels fly out from under me during said mt biking excursions.  Fun stuff!  I’ve also found out that I have a mild version of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome where nerves and blood vessels thoughout the shoulder girdle are pinched in certain postures and cause fingers and hands to lose feeling and experience numbness and tingling.  This is why my hands fall asleep while riding, sleeping, reading, knitting, etc.  I guess all of this would explain where the first three months of this year have gone…

What’s to come?  More training for my A race - Pacific Crest Half IM in June.  Doing a training camp in Bend, OR - where PCT is taking place - over Memorial Day weekend.  Packing for my move.  Selling furniture.  Trips to the mountain to acclimate to altitude.  Lots of hill training.  More swim clinics.

Hope all are doing well if anyone is even still checking this page.  ;)
